Our Community
LaToya Ball
FOUNDER, & EXECUITVE DIRECTOR
LaToya began with the first community event in August 2018 creating a safe space for women to come and discuss emotional intelligence and how to manage the expectations of society versus our personal needs. From there she began to work on her legacy by serving the community through meeting the needs of housing and basic health needs. As a way to familiarize herself with the needs of the community and the ability to provide a solution, she began to study the often “overlooked and underprivileged community”, that includes displaced women and families. She spent over two years as an Overnight Volunteer with the Calvary Women’s Shelter, worked with the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, and continued to organize community events to acknowledge her core market. Christmas 2018 LaToya and Team Milestones partnered with Operations of Angels to host a bedding drive to revamp the UCAP housing for their population. In 2019 LaToya partnered with a local podcast and hosted a forum for black business owners and consumers to work together and keep the dollar in the community, she also held a Women’s personal needs drive to honor the grand opening of Arnold’s Place (the only transitional home in Prince Georges County at the time). In 2020 Milestones Elevation partnered with a local real estate agent and created a program called Kidz with Talents, that focused on providing education and opportunity to young adults between the ages of 7 – 15. They hosted several workshops for parents and young entrepreneurs to learn the fundamentals of business, entrepreneurship, and how to turn their passion into profit. Also, in 2020 Milestones Elevation Community Development addressed the misconception of African American families by creating a series and highlighting local black families that were working together to create sustainable relationships throughout their community called Black in Love. Since 2018 LaToya has worked diligently on several projects to also acknowledge and highlight the progression of Black Women by celebrating Black Women’s History Month recognized in the month of April every year with a celebration. This year she joined over fifty women to write a Best-Selling Anthology titled S.H.E. Seeing Myself in HER Story (set for release July 30, 2023). The S.H.E. Gala is an extension of the appreciation LaToya and Team Milestones has for the advancement of women and its effect on the community.
